2. Who is eligible to purchase a membership to the Fitness and Recreation Center? | Back to top.
UT undergraduate and graduate students, both part-time or full-time, receive a free annual membership to use the Fitness and Recreation Center. UT students are required to bring a valid Spartan ID card with them each time they visit the facility.
UT faculty or staff can purchase an annual membership to the Fitness and Recreation Center for $100. Affiliate, or contracted University employees, can purchase an annual membership for $250. You can register for your membership by visiting the front desk of the Fitness and Recreation Center with your valid Spartan ID card. Please note: payment is ONLY accepted in the form of cash or check.
Anyone with a membership is able to bring up to three guests, aged 16 or above, per visit into the facility with them. A day guest pass is $10 and can be paid for in the form of cash or check. The host member must be present in the facility with the guests, and the guests must adhere by all policies and procedures of the facility.

Student memberships will remain active as long as you are enrolled in UT courses. UT faculty and staff memberships are sold on an annual basis. Therefore, membership is active for 365 days from the date of purchase.
4. Will UT Alumni be able to use the Fitness and Recreation Center? | Back to top.
No. At this time, the Campus Recreation staff is unable to predict facility usage with the current UT campus community. We must evaluate staffing models, equipment usage and class participation and also take into account parking on our growing campus. 5. Is there still a dress code at the new fitness center? | Back to top.
Yes, there is a dress code. All participants are required to wear athletic attire (no buttons, zippers or hardware that might damage equipment) and close-toed athletic shoes. Tops and bottoms are required at all times.
6. Is Olympic Weight Lifting or CrossFit allowed at the Fitness and Recreation Center? | Back to top.
All Olympic lifting must be performed on the lifting platforms. Please use caution and be mindful of others. Keep in mind dropping of weights from above the knee is prohibited.
7. What are the policies for the Fitness and Recreation Center? | Back to top.
The Fitness Center has policies in place in order to ensure patron safety and to keep our facility operating at optimum quality. Please refer to the Fitness Center Policies for further detail.
8. Why do I need my Spartan Card to use the Fitness Center? | Back to top.
It is University policy that all students on campus have UT identification on them at all times. This is also a way for us to keep track of the users and maintain safety of the fitness facility.
No entry will be permitted without the proper Spartan ID Card presented at the front desk upon entering facility.
9. How do I get a job within the Campus Recreation Department? | Back to top.
The office usually goes through a hiring process at the end of each semester. From time to time there may be openings during the semester. More details can be found on our Employment Opportunities page and on HIRE-UT .
10. I’m interested in becoming a personal trainer or group fitness instructor. What are the steps to applying for either of these positions? | Back to top.
  • A nationally recognized and accredited certification is required.
  • Current University of Tampa students with necessary credentials are given first preference.
  • One year previous experience in health and fitness as a group fitness instructor or degree seeking in exercise science preferred.
  • Current certification in CPR is required.
  • Ability to instruct at least two group fitness class per week.

Yes, UT does offer certification courses in personal training, group fitness instruction and specialty courses. Please check back for details.
13. How much does it cost to attend group fitness classes? | Back to top.
Once an annual membership is purchased, all group fitness class are free to the UT community; including, faculty/staff and students.

Visit the Personal Training webpage to check out our trainers or stop in at the front desk to view the portfolio of trainers. Personal training pricing for the upcoming semester is to be determined. Contracts and payment will be handled at the front desk upon opening.

16. How far is it around the track? | Back to top.
The track is one-quarter mile around, taking four laps to complete one mile. Walkers should stay to the outside lanes and move in the direction of the track traffic. The track is open from dawn to dusk and operated by the Athletic Department. If it is ever found locked during those times, there is a card access point next to the bleachers that you can swipe your Spartan Card against for access. Please do not prop open the gate or allow others to enter the facility behind.

Sign up as a free agent. If other teams need more members, they will pick you up to play on their team. If there are enough free agent applicants, a team will be created from those applicants. Contact Joshua Pullens for more information at jpullens@ut.edu .
